vaccination

Please vaccinate your children.  We are seeing out breaks from diseases that should not happen.  Kids are placed together everyday in enclosed classroom and this is good environment for diseases to spread.  Would you send a soldier off too war without his gun.  Please speak with your doctors, the thought of not vaccinating your child does not only effect you child but other children as well.  Adults should also get vaccinated as well, i.e., tetanus/diptheria,  flu, pnemonia, shingles to name a few.

New Health Care...?

President Obama's health care plan was passed, or approved, by the Supreme Court.  For me, I think that it's great that everyone will have healthcare.  But, I got a few questions.
First question, who are these people who can afford insurance and do not have it?  The people I see without insurance are the people whose insurance monthly fee is way to expensive; therefore, if you have to decide between paying a high insurance premium and keeping a roof over your head, guess which decision will win.
Also, will we need another department to oversee penalty when your do not get insurance?  I guess that's a way to make new jobs.
Last, does this mean that that the insurance companies will be lowering their rates?  After all, they do have a captive audience.
In closing, I feel we are treating a symptom and not the disease.  We all need to let our congressman know at the end of the day we all Americans, and we need a healthcare system that work.

Please note, I'm not endorsing any candidate or am I talking about the president, so don't go there!

Hepatitis

Hepatitis is sexual transmitted disease that you may not know that you have.
Most times, it is discovered when labs tests are done, and it's mainly transmitted during unprotected sex, sharing of body fluids, and IV drug users can contract it from sharing of needles.  Getting help, less sexual partners and protected sex is the way to go...Check out some of these articles.

Jealous!

I have had some strange things to have happened to me during the course of my career, but this worrisome and scary.
A male patient  came with his girlfriend.  During the visit,  the patient's GF (girlfriend) alleged that I had interest in her boyfriend other than professional...(Blank Stare).
Let me state this - PHYSICIANS DONT USUALLY DATE THEIR PATIENTS!  We like our license to much.  If a doctor is nice to a patient, it's because we are nice and concerned.  Yet, most of us are like that with ALL of our patients.  So GF or BF (boyfriend),  leave that problem at home and do not bring it out into the public.  If you can't trust your girlfriend or boyfriend, you may need to re-think your relationship.
Also, I will be dismissing that patient from my practice, because in this day and time you never know when someone will go postal.

On-Call BLUES

Recently, I was on-call for the weekend for my call group, (a group of doctor who cover each other's patients).  One of the problems that on-call doctor face are patients trying to get medications that should have been cleared by that patient's primary care doctor (PCP) during the week.  Please note - If you have prescriptions that you need, please address that before a weekend or holiday.  Sadly, some patients attempt to use on-call doctor to fill prescriptions, or take care of an illness that the patients should have used their PCP to take care of during business hours.  The on-call doctor has no way of knowing the last time you saw your PCP.
So heads up - take responsibility for your health care, and use your PCP.  Also, do not call an on-call doctor in the middle of the night for something that has been going on all day.  Doctors are human...we like to sleep too.

The Safest Sex Ever!

Masturbation is not a dirty word or action.  It is a way to get to find out what you like and help others please you.  Girls get busy especially. There are a lot of web sites where you can ask questions, shop for devices that can deliver to your home, and no one the wiser. For you married girls, you should not be left out!

If you have never had a "Big O", experiment with your husband (or partner) and show each other how.  Start slow and build up.  However, if you can only have the "Big O" with your "manual" friend, you may need to turn down the intensity if you are having problems achieving organism with your partner.

Last tip, hand wash and dry your sex toys after every use and decrease a chance of irritation or infection.  Unscented soaps to prevent Miss Sallye from getting a problem.  Have safe and respectful fun!!!!!!

Muffins & More...

If you saw my post on Muffin tops, I've seen somethings that have made me come up with some other descriptions.  Along with Muffins, you have Buffins, Floppins and Cirmuffins.
***Buffins are back fat that hang over your pants
***Floppins are muffins that flop over into the lap
***Cirmuffins  are if you have ALL of the above.
If you any or all of these, there may be a need for shape wear.  You can also maintain a proper diet & exercise  and get your body right!
If you don't want to have any of those labels, do something about it!

Room of Occupancy

Just a note...
Doctors like when a loved one comes to the office with a patient who may not be able to admit some health issues or are elderly.  But please, do not bring a tribe of people with you. Usually, there is limited seating in a doctor office, just enough for you and the other patients and their family, friends, etc...so, only one person,  if possible.

Summertime, STD Time Of The Year

It's just about summer time,  the time of year that I see the most STDs, SEXUAL TRANSMITTED DISEASES. I know it can get hot & heavy, but I would like for everyone to take a moment and cool your jets.  Taking time may save you some exposure to disease.

Most common is Gonorrhea and Chlamydia, Genital Herpes, Genital Warts, Human Papilloma Virus, HIV, and  lastly Syphilis.  A lot of my homosexual patients have been the largest offender of contracting Syphilis.  That population gets the same talk as any of my other sexually active patients, be he or she old or young.

Another thing, ALWAYS turn on lights , get to know the person, oral sex is sex and you can contract STD, condoms and more condoms with any kind of sexual contact, ask questions, never to anything sexually that makes you feel uncomfortable, No is a good word use it and use as often as needed my young ladies and men.  know how to correctly put on a condom read the box. Skin contact bring disease as well so don't be fooled just because you cannot see anything.  The more sexual partners you have the more the risk for contracting STDS.

Let's Talk About Sex!

Hello Everybody!

Since it's STD Awareness Month, I thought this would be a good time for me to "talk dirty" to you!  For the month of April, I will be talking about SEX.   We all know there is a good way and a bad way to do it, I'm not in your bedroom.  But as a Physician,  there is so much I see...even though some folks think they have sex all figured out, they don't.

People have all sorts of questions, like do you still catch STDs this way or that way, should I still have sex if I have a heart condition, all sorts of them.  So, if YOU have a question (or two), I would like to hear from you.  Please go to my website - you can check out some of my videos and e-mail me at lisawelch@atlgoodr.com.  You can also find me on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/atlthegooddr), like my page and leave me a message there.  If you know anyone else that has questions, give them my information as well!

I look forward to hearing from you...also, no question is a stupid one, and I'm not going to put you on blast.  I want you to be well and comfortable in your life, so if I can help, let me know!

It's Heating Up...But Cool Down!

It's getting warmer & the summer months are approaching, tis the season for sharing STDs - Sexually Transmitted Diseases.  So,  before your get all hot and bothered in the heat, turn on the lights so you can see what your are getting! Just because it looks good does not make it good - plenty of things smell bad after the wrapper is removed.  Make sure to ask  questions for this is your life you're playing with.  It only takes one time of unprotected sex to get an STD (or a baby).   Be Smart...and keep it to your self.

Do You Have a "Muffin Top"?

Healthy heart tip - it is not your weight, it is your waist size.  Muffin tops on a man or woman are not attractive, and is sign telling you need to slim down.  If you are a female and your waist measures 32 or less, you're on track.   If you're male and your waist measures less than 37, you are on track.  If you and your love one are over these measurement,  get moving and band those muffing tops together.
Shout out to the ladies - Girlfriends talk...and talk about one another a lot,  so instead of talking about the "Muffin Top", be kind and help each other out...and push away the cheesecake.

These are some good articles to help you on your way...

Catching Up...

Sorry, I have been out touch.  New house blues and blessings...

Ok, here are some thoughts.

1. Get Your  Colon Checked!
If you are 50 years of age or have a family history of people having colon cancer at early ages, it is time for your colonoscopy.  This is a test to check for cancer in your colon.  The preparation for this test is not pleasant, but it is necessary. Medications are given to put you in light sleep and someone must drive you there and back.

2. Vision Is Important!
If you are 50 and above, get your eyes checked every 2 yrs or more frequently if directed by a health professional.  Need to monitor for glaucoma, retinal diseases, cataracts and bleeds in the eyes...
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/eye-exam/MY00245/DSECTION=what-you-can-expect

On a personal note (please bear with me), if you go to a doctors appointment,  do not to expect to leave within 10 minutes of arrive.  It is not the intent to keep patients waiting for hours.  If this is occurring, you may to change doctors, or inquire about times when the office may not be so busy, i.e. the first appointment of the day or after lunch, these appointments generally go pretty fast.  But please be patient, listen to music provided in the room or least in my exam rooms...exhale and decrease the stress.

Watch Yourself!

Everyone likes to eat out, but if we have health problems, we know we need to watch it (watch our weight, our cholesterol, etc).  This is a good article showing some facts on some food or dishes we may love to eat that can work against us.

It's National Nutrition Month!

We all know we need to eat right, but we don't want to compromise on taste.  Cooking Light is one of my favorite magazines for it has wonderful recipes that are tasty and good for you!  This month, I'll be passing on some recipes and food facts.  Here is a good recipe for you to try!

ADVISE to patient

If your doctor gives a  you a new medication to take and you develop a problem with taking new medication or you insurance will not pay or it is too expensive,  CALL your doctor and let him or her know, don't wait for the return visit to reveal this information.. This waste your doctor's time and endangers your life.  So be proactive in your health  and make that call ASAP.
Always Good Health,
DR. WELCH
This is an FYI for those who indulge in anal sex.  First it is an exist not an entrance!!!! However if you must indulge lets do so without causing MISS SALLEY a vaginal problem.  Never place a penis or other sex toys that have been in the rectum this will cause a very nasty bacterial infection in the vagina.  So used a condom with anal sex and remove before placing into vagina.  So get your FREAK ON without traumatizing MISS SALLEY.  HAPPY VALENTINE DAY !!!!!  BE SAFE AND WEAR CONDOMS !!!!!

NEED To See Doctor On A Regular Basis

If you have a chronic disease such as Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, etc, you need to see your doctor every 3 to 4 months.
If your having a problem with your condition or newly diagnosed, you may need to go more frequently until problem is corrected.
Many of my patients complain that employers will not let them off for doctor's visits and they get strikes against them.  Now, I understand this, but your job will be taken over when you die before the flies can blow you.  See if you can make arrangements to go in late or leave early.   If this cannot be done, check with your HR department for FMLA papers ( Family Medical Leave Act), which can be filled out by your doctor for a fee (insurance does not cover this).  This paper work lets you employer know the approximate times when your will need to see the doctor...

Pink Slips to Patients and Doctors

If for any reason you do not care for a physician, do not go back for another appointment.
Save your time  and money.
If it was usual day in that particular office give it another try - Remember doctors are people as well, and sometimes people do not click.  Keep searching until you find the right fit.
By the same token, doctors can dismiss patients from their practices, so patients you can get a pink slip from your doctor as well...we do not like to but sometimes it necessary...

Deductible & Your Pocket Book

For the lucky ones of us who have insurance, the end of year may be the time to get procedures , such as colonoscopy ( screening test for colon cancer ) when your deductible (money out of your pocket that you must pay before your insurance will pay) is lower.
Always call your insurance to see what is remaining of your deductible for the year if procedures are needed.  Remember, deductibles start over every year with full amounts in the new year.
Be smart and ask questions......

Looking For Insurance

As we know, insurance is expensive.  You need to look for insurance as if you are trying to purchase a high tech flat screen TV.
Self employed persons may find insurance more expensive being a single individual, or small number of employees.
You can find other self employed and possibly band together as a group to get cheaper rates...

It's a new year, time to start on a new you.  Some like to start the year off with losing weight with new diets and such, but thinking about what we eat can help as well.
